Battlefleet Name-Not-Given.
The bug has caught me.
As with these things, I get caught up in the moment and now I'm working to rebuild my shattered Imperial Navy fleet. for those not in the know, Battlefleet Gothic was a space ship battle game by Games Workshop. Like always with GW they just stop supporting it to the point of excommunication. With that, eBay is generally the only source of original ships, with stand-ins popping up on Shapeways and the like to fill the need for new models. Ofcourse the hobby takes to kitbashing like ducks to Hoi-sin sauce.
Out of the rabble of parts from my junk boxes, I think I can make a respectable flotilla of cruisers. A lot of repairs are needed to 'unconvert' some back into stock Navy ships, but that's all part of the fun.
Still need to fluff the fleet. I'm slowly throwing together an Imperial Guard army for 40k, and I'd like to tie them together in some way, perhaps making some Imperial Carriers, military transports and such.
Out comes the scalpel, file, glue.
These wrecks reborn whole.

Bad Haiku?

Gothic Class & Tyrant Class Cruisers, respectively.

Maybe 4-5 stock Navy ships salvaged, several destroyers and escorts, and a
Rogue Trader ship in black.

Looks a lot but it's really not. I maybe have 4 turrets to go round 10 lance batteries. Improvisation is key!
Next time I hope to have either some more ships out of the repair yard, and maybe even a colour scheme!

Put-put, Pop-pop! A truly underrated toy.
The Put-Put Boat
I remember my Dad taking me to the Dorset Steam Fair as a wee boy in the 90's. I didn't particularly care for steam engines much, but was fascinated by anything mechanical. We slept in the caravan and painted model planes on a lovely sunny day. One thing I remember though, were those damned boats. They were MAGIC. Dad bought me a nice green topped put-put boat, and taught me to be safe with matches at the same time. so much fun did I have messing around in the sink with my little boat, its thin tin flag bent and askew.
Cut almost 20 years later (fuck I feel old) and I bought myself a replacement. It's abit more flash than the old simple green-top-baremetal-body deal, but she runs like a charm. I really recommend grabbing one of these if you ever see one. they're cheap as shit and are awesome. kids need to learn to play with fire in ways other than cigarettes after all.
DON'T ACT LIKE YOU AIN'T IMPRESSED
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A pop-pop boat is a toy with a very simple steam engine without moving parts, typically powered by a candle or vegetable oil burner. The name comes from the noise some versions of the boats make. Other names are putt-putt boat, crazy boat, flash-steamer, hot-air-boat, pulsating water engine boat. Around the world they may be called Can-Can-boot, Knatterboot, toc-toc, Puf-Puf boat, Poof Poof craft, Phut-Phut, or Pouet-Pouet.

BattleTech Introductory Boxset
In Review
Battletech, the game of Armoured Combat.
Or, more accurately, the Hex-based tabletop wargame about giant robots blowing eachother to smouldering heaps of metal, all wrapped up in a rich and ever expanding setting of SPACE-FEUDALISM.
I've been meaning to grab a boxset of some description for a few years now, having been a big fan of both the Mechwarrior vidyagaems and tabletop wargaming, my only problem was finding someone to play with. Recently that ended & here we are, taking a look at the current Introductory Boxset.

My piss-poor Camera skills at work, I totally meant to get the ominous shadows, totally..
The game comes in a sturdy well made cardboard box with an astounding amount of content for the price. (between £45-55 online).
Contents:
24 single part Battlemech miniatures (aparently newly cast unlike the sloppy models in previous boxsets).
2 "Premium" multipart plastic mechs (they're not so premium, but still nice).
A very large map of the Inner Sphere.
'Inner Sphere at a Glance' - 56 page book of lore, all you need to get to grips with the full universe of Battletech.
'Quickstart Rules' - 12 page rulebook, easy to learn in a very short amount of time.
'Painting and Tactics Guide' - 16 pages of Ronseal.
'Introductory Rulebook' - 80 pages with all the fun rules like Heat!
36 page booklet of Battlemech Record Sheets for the enclosed Mech minis.
2 doublesided cardboard reference tables.
Two double-sided thick gameboards measuring 18inches by 22inches.
and finally, 2 dice.

A selection of minis, all require minor mold-line removal and clean up, but for the price they're some of the cheapest miniatures available, and yet still very high quality.
![]() |
Timberwolf/MadCat looking slightly disapointed with itself.
![]() |
THICK - these gameboards (referred to as 'mapsheets') are about as thick, possibly slightly thicker, than your average Monopoly gameboard. and you get two!

This thing is maybe around 'A2' in size, and demands to be framed.

Quick-star rules, easily read over a lunch break at work.

Very handy for those new to the Hobby.

I won't show the insides for reasons, but its a lot of words and diagrams.

Reverse side of the Rulebook.

Record sheets and Tables. high quality paper on those record sheets. use pencil lightly or be posh and laminate those things.

To Conclude..
I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend this game to anybody who enjoys Mechs and smashing Mechs with other Mechs.Battletech has a tendency, I think, to be rather intimidating to a new player. it's lore is vast spanning over 25 years, its ruleset very detailed and complex, however I feel this Boxset lives up to the title of 'Introductory', as it gives the new player a great way of entering both the gameplay and the fiction without bogging you down in masses of tables to remember (that comes later...)
